PROPOSAL FOR FINAL MAJOR PROJECT (part 1)

My Game

My game is called “Olivia Smith” and the genre is action, survival horror, supernatural and police. I chose a female protagonist character, Olivia Smith because I wanted to show Olivia as a strong, beautiful, tough woman, examples of such characters include Aya Brea (the Parasite Eve series), Lara Croft (the Tomb Raider series), Samus Aran (the Metroid series). I chose Olivia’s job to be a police officer who will have to fight zombies and supernatural creatures because it will make it an non-stop action game. I will create a 3D background with 2D characters and I will make it platform game. The selling point will be no graphic violence because I want to look like a comic book or cartoon game.

The story is about a policewoman who is attacked by zombies and supernatural creatures. The story begins in the year 2236 in the city of London. Olivia Smith has just arrived in the city to visit her family. She senses something is wrong; the city looks pretty quiet, no people and some ruined buildings. Olivia decides go to the police station to find out what is going on in the city. Before Olivia arrives at the police station, she sees a person who is standing on the road and she discovers that that person has been transformed into a zombie. Olivia runs quickly back into the car and hits the zombie with the police car but it holds on to the front of the police car. Olivia can’t see through the window but she knows the police station is near. She has to crash through the wall of the police station. Olivia’s story is just beginning but the nightmare has already begun……

Olivia’s target goals are find out what is happening in the city, search for her family and escape from the London. She has to work her way through the police station to the city and fight zombies and supernatural creatures on her way.

The character of Olivia Smith is similar to Noel Vermillion (BlazBlue), Oerba Yun Fang (Final Fantasy XIII) and Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell).

 Goals

I want to remake my game “Ultimate Heroes” from the first year because I want to improve it by making a 3D background with 2D characters. When I finish my game, I want to improve my 3D game because I want to add more levels to make more interesting 3D background.

User Experience

Audience

The target audience is over 12 years of age because I don’t want graphic violence and I want to look like a comic book or cartoon game. I want to use comic sounds and words in the game because it is good for deaf, teenagers and older people.

Competitive Analysis

My game is similar to Rayman Origin, Aliens: Infestation and Sonic Generations. Rayman Origins is a platform video game for Wii, 3DS, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and will be released in November 2011. I like Rayman Origin because the game is in beautiful high-definition 2D and incredible backgrounds art. In my game, I will create a city and police station in 3D background.

Aliens: Infestation is action-packed, platform shooter for DS game which was released in October 2011. I like Aliens: Infestation because it has a dark colour to it to make it look like a horror game and also it has check health, ammo and weapon in bottom screen. In my game, I will create dark colours, like night because it shows how it links to the genre as a survival horror/supernatural game.

Sonic Generations is a platform video game (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and 3DS) and will be released in November 2011. Olivia Smith similar to Sonic the hedgehog because I want Olivia’s gun and fighting scenes to show really fast animation and make it incredibly non-stop action.

I have three books and two magazines that will help me with ideas and how to draw.

  • The Animator’s Survival Kit, (2001), Richard Williams
  • 500 Essential Anime Movies, (2008), Helen McCarthy
  • How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way, (1978), Stan Lee and John Buscema
  • Games Master (Magazine)
  • NEO (Magazine)

Critical Analysis

My feelings are: I will not work with violent video games because I am not interested in them and they are boring to play. I will work for Role-playing video game (RPG) and Platform genre (e.g. Marvel, Sonic the Hedgehog, Disney etc) because my target audience video game is 3 – 12 years of age and I want it to be like comics and cartoons. My dissertation is on violent games, but I don’t want to use graphic violence and I like it to be like comic books or cartoons. I will create comic sounds by using words (e.g. “pow”, “boom” etc) to make it a more interesting game.

Project Content

Content

I want to create a large police station in level one and I will add characters Olivia Smith and zombies. Also I will add a final boss in level one and it will be werewolf.

Function Requirements

I will use the software Adobe Flash, 3D max and Adobe Photoshop for my game. Also my game is made for the Nintendo 3DS because it is good for two screen (top and bottom).
